In a move that almost no one expected Capcom have announced Street Fighter X Mega Man today, finally Capcom acknowledges Mega Man. For a good while now you’d think that Capcom was doing everything in it’s power to forget that Mega Man ever existed with regards to how they’ve been the franchise in recent times. Mega Man Legends 3 and Mega Man Universe were cancelled with the little blue guy also missing in action in Marvel VS Capcom 3.

To celebrate both Mega Man’s and Street Fighter’s 25th anniversary Capcom have decided to do what they do best and do a crossover, this time round they are crossing over their own games. I’m telling you guys it’s only a matter of time before we get Capcom X Capcom, the character select screen will be the Xbox marketplace. Okay I’m just teasing at this point but the teasing has finished on Capcom’s end as they’ve finally got round to giving Mega Man fans some love, so much so that this game is designed by a fan.

Involving a true collaboration between a company and its fans, Street Fighter X Mega Man was created and developed by Singapore native Seow Zong Hui (aka “Sonic”), with direction and support provided by Capcom. The game stars Mega Man and features eight original Street Fighter-themed levels and bosses inspired by the legendary fighting game series. Each boss character will utilize their individual strategies and special moves against Mega Man, as players attempt to mega blast their way through each uniquely charming 8-bit world.

Well that’s certainly rather interesting and you may be wondering if you’re going to buy a game essentially made by a fan but there’s good news. Street Fighter X Mega Man will be a free PC download and you’ll be able to check it out as soon as it launches on December 17th. I normally give Capcom a hard time but there’s no complaining from me this time, nicely done Capcom.
