Sony have released a new system update for the PlayStation Vita and with it comes some subtle changes, one new feature in particular is a pretty big deal. Well it’s a pretty big deal depending on whether or not you plan on picking up a PlayStation 4 later this month.
System update 3.00 brings with it a new application called ‘PS4 Link’ and it does exactly what the name suggests, it will allow users to connect their PlayStation Vitas to the PlayStation 4 to act as a ‘second screen’ similar to Microsoft’s rubbish ‘smart glass’ feature. Sony’s offering holds more potential however as the the PlayStation Vita can be used as a controller for supported PlayStation 4 games so no clumsy switching between controller and tablet.
Perhaps the more exciting part of the new ‘PS4 Link’ application is the ability to stream PlayStation 4 games to your Vita so someone else can use the TV. Long story short, system update 3.00 basically turns your PlayStation Vita into a Wii U GamePad. It’s not the first time Sony has borrowed from Nintendo and it certainly won’t be the last.
